NEVER JET HOT

We are planning to get rid of cable and TIVO and rely on the series of tubes and wires (Internet) for our TV entertainment. STEP ONE: Test to see if home network signal is sufficient I didn't want to buy anything just yet, so I revived my old XP computer by replacing the power supply. OK, that cost $32 - I should count that. Hooked it up in the dining room, swiped a Wireless Net G adapter from another computer (temporarily!) - and watched a few shows from various network sites. (Network sites have this annoying habit of forcing the viewer to download a special player to "enhance the experience" or whatever, but it doesn't seem to be spyware, so I guess it's ok.) Had mixed results on this, I forgot how noisy that computer was, and I didn't have a spare flat monitor, so I hooked it up to an old CRT monstrosity which took up half of the counter. We watched some TV station video and it played fine, but the image on that monitor was somewhat dark. I don...

I like to say "we" have decided to switch to 100% Internet TV, ditching Cable and TIVO, But this is a household with two middle-aged adults, and two young adults, one in school and one as a boarder (YES I charge rent!) The young people are cool with it, as young people are wont to be, but the Mrs. isn't too keen on the idea. So, part of the process will be to convince her that it's worth it to save $840 plus a year. Follow along with the tag below DITCH.CABLE to learn from my mistakes.

Apparently some wags on twitter are assuming the personas of characters on Mad Men, the beautiful to look at TV show populated by some pretty rotten characters (Don Draper is an IDIOT to cheat on Betty) Some think it might be at least partly an advertising gimmick by AMC to promote their show about advertising... At least one persona on twitter referred inquiries to Deep Focus, an ad agency representing AMC's Mad Men show... "But it does remain a mystery concerning just who is behind these 'Mad Men' characters. AMC says the posts are written by fans, but they seem to be suspiciously well-connected fans: in response to an interview request, Mr. Draper's character referred all questions to Deep Focus, a Web marketing agency that works for AMC." ... It's like a hall of mirrors.

This site; That Was Random! ...reminds me of a show from the 70's called "Real People with Sarah Purcell". Recently the site has a guy who can move his eyes independently of each other, and videos of people who have problems with travel trailers, and a bunch of other interesting bits. I wonder what ever became of Sarah Purcell? And why do I remember her name, but not the names of my children?

So this new series DRIVE has everyone here hooked. Personally I am rooting for the "crazy" lady with the plastic baby, now teamed up with the mad-to-win blond girl; the perfect team. I predict a showdown between the blond and "crazy" lady's abusive husband. Unfortunately, we may never know; Our local TV reviewer guy predicts that we will probably only get to see maybe 4 episodes before FOX pulls the plug on it. I hope you will check it out, you might like it. Watch more TV, kids.

I posted this suggestion at the Netflix site. I hope a lot of other people complain about this too, a "This Movie is also for sale!" box below a large number of the movies in my to watch Queue. Now they've gone and made me use the word "queue". I hate that word. It's a LIST. Anyway, here's that note to the netflix folks. Feel free to use any part. Power in numbers and all that. I love Netflix, just one thing- Hating the new "This movie is also for sale" box below some of the movies. We use Netflix precisely so we WON'T buy watch-once-and-forget movies. It clutters up my movie list. Is there any way I can turn that off? -John
